Today was a transfer day and the forecast was for lots of rain! The morning started out warm and sunny, so far, so good. Our first stop was in Shkodra, a small city situated at the foot of the Albanian Alps. We started our day off like most other days, hiking up to a castle, this time it was the Rofaza Castle. The guide did arrange for a taxi van to carry some of the group up as some people were having difficulty with all of these hikes on cobblestone roads that go straight up! For me, I am just hoping that the hiking helps to offset the wine that we have been drinking!! For me, the best thing about the castles is that we get such amazing views from them and this one didn't let us down. Shkodra is situated beside a lake and two rivers, with mountains all around, very scenic!
After our castle tour we earned our lunch break. We went into the city centre and had lunch at an outdoor restaurant that served Albanian food. The food is still delicious and cheap! It has been a long time since we felt that things were this reasonable!
Next we crossed into Montenegro and drove through the mountains until we reached the other side of Lake Skadar where we went for a boat ride. By this time, the clouds had built up and they seemed to be threatening is but we got through the one hour ride without rain. There was also a group from Israel on the boat so it was fun for me to chat with them.
Just as we got back onto the bus it started to rain. We travelled along the coast to Bidva in the pouring rain. It is too bad as it could have been really scenic. It was actually a bit scary as it was pouring rain and there was lots of thunder and lightening.
We were sure greatful to get safely to our hotel. We still have to go out for dinner but the bus will be taking us so we should stay mostly dry!! Off we go......
