We've Arrived!

Hi!

We arrived safe and sound in Belgrade, Serbia on Sunday at noon!  We flew Saskatoon-Toronto-Frankfurt-Belgrade and we had great flights and connections!  The only hiccup was when we arrived in Belgrade and realized that we had left our duty free bottles on the plane!!  Panic!!  Luckily, we were able to peel them out of the hands of the employees at lost and found!!  (I am sure they were hoping that they didn't get claimed)!

Our TD, Alfredo met us and the rest of the group at the airport and whisked us off to our hotel, a lovely old hotel near the old city centre.  We took 45 minutes to freshen up and away we went on a walking tour!  We walked to the old city centre and out to the fortress that overlooks the confluence of the Danube and Sava Rivers.  It was a lovely afternoon and being Sunday, lots of locals were out and about as well.  It was fun to watch a group of people doing a local dance with an accordion player as well as groups of elderly men playing chess in the park!

By the time we returned to the hotel we were pretty weary but we kept going!  We had a welcome drink and tour orientation meeting at the hotel before going to dinner.  The bus took us into the old part of the city to a beautiful restaurant where they had a room set up just for us.  We were treated to a scrumptious three course dinner with our choice of fish or "meat".  Those of us that chose meat were in for a surprise when we received a chicken breast, pork chop, hamburger and three sausages (plus side dishes).  That was enough meat for a week!!

The meal was topped off with a four piece band coming along to perform some lively local music for us.  As lovely as it was, our eyes were all slamming shut by this time! Finally, we headed back to the hotel (about 8:30) and were able to lay our weary bodies down!

This morning we feel refreshed and ready to meet the day!  I will try to add some pictures tonight.

Oh ya, a bit about our group.  There are 9 of us in my group, plus 10 Americans.  So far it seems like a really great group, including a hilarious elderly lady from Philadelphia that I am sure is going to keep us in stitches for the tour!

Ciao for now!
